For nearly two decades, premium cigar retailers have served as one of the strongest pillars of support for Cigar Rights of America. Beyond introducing consumers to premium cigars and fostering community within the industry, retailers play a critical role in advancing CRA’s advocacy mission by educating customers, supporting grassroots engagement, and helping ensure that the voice of premium cigar consumers is heard by policymakers.
Recent efforts by two dedicated retailers show exactly why tobacconists remain essential to CRA’s mission.
The Tobacconist of Greenwich Raises More Than $228,000 for CRA
Earlier this month, Michael Cafagno and Dylan Austin of The Tobacconist of Greenwich hosted the Titans of Tobacco Experience, an extraordinary gathering that brought together six of the most respected families and individuals in premium cigars, including members of the Fuente, Padrón, Gomez, Kelner, and Diaz families, as well as Nicholas Melillo.
The event celebrated the heritage, craftsmanship, and traditions that define premium cigars while also raising critical resources for CRA’s advocacy efforts. Through the generosity of attendees, participating manufacturers, and event organizers, the silent auction generated $228,350 in net proceeds for Cigar Rights of America.
Those funds will directly support CRA’s ongoing efforts to defend premium cigars before state legislatures, federal regulators, and local governments across the country. Just as importantly, the event helped introduce consumers to CRA’s mission, expanding awareness of the organization’s work and strengthening the industry’s collective advocacy network.
Jack Schwartz Importer Creates Unique Membership Opportunity
In Chicago, Billy O’Hara, proprietor of Jack Schwartz Importer, partnered with CRA Board Member Tony Gomez of La Flor Dominicana on a unique initiative designed to both celebrate premium cigars and grow support for CRA.
Together, they created a limited-edition box of La Flor Dominicana cigars that includes a complimentary CRA membership and the exclusive Litto Gomez Founding Father Challenge Coin. The project provides consumers with a unique collectible while simultaneously introducing cigar enthusiasts to CRA and encouraging greater participation in the organization’s advocacy efforts.
By connecting premium cigar consumers directly with CRA membership, the initiative creates another pathway for adult consumers to become involved in protecting the products and traditions they enjoy.
Why Retailers Matter
These two examples highlight the many ways premium cigar retailers contribute to the long-term success of the industry. Whether through hosting world-class events, creating innovative membership opportunities, educating consumers, or supporting advocacy efforts, retailers remain an indispensable link between manufacturers, consumers, and organizations like CRA.
Retailers are often the first point of contact for new premium cigar consumers and serve as trusted ambassadors for the culture, traditions, and values that make the premium cigar industry unique. Their ability to engage customers, build community, and communicate the importance of advocacy makes them essential partners in protecting the future of premium cigars.
Cigar Rights of America is grateful for the continued support of retailers across the country. Their commitment to the industry extends far beyond the products they sell and reflects a shared understanding that protecting premium cigars requires the active participation of manufacturers, retailers, and consumers alike.
For retailers looking to become more involved, these efforts offer a powerful example that every cigar shop has the ability to educate, engage, and activate the cigar community.
